None of this to say that The Hangover was a terrible movie where I waited for Galifianakis’s lines. It was definitely entertaining, and only mostly because of Galifianakis, but it wasn’t exactly the movie I thought I was going to see. That’s the effeminate Chinese gangster’s fault. (more…)

I watched the last five episodes of season three of Dexter straight through, bouncing from the edge of the futon to the floor to half under the coffee table to perched on the edge of the futon on again. But a month earlier, when I watched the season premiere with someone who hadn’t seen the two previous seasons, I kept repeating, “It’ll get better. This show always gets better.”
Even though there’s both an accidental murder and pregnancy and more importantly, Jimmy Smits is introduced as a central character, the first episode did nothing to suck me in. Except for the last five minutes of episode two, which were brilliant and shocking and awesome, the season didn’t take off until we were halfway through it.
Watching the first half of the season didn’t have to feel like paying dues for the second half. (more…)
